Interview 37: Tom Alvis on Christian Influence in a Post-Christian Culture

Gordon Dickson with Tom Alvis

We are talking about the March/April 2024 edition of FrontLine called “Salt and Light in Your City and State.”

Our host for this session is Gordon Dickson, who served as our Associate Editor for this edition of the magazine. The guest today is pastor Tom Alvis, from Powhatan, Virginia.

Tom wrote an article for FrontLine called “Christian Influence in a Post-Christian Culture.”

In the article, Tom gives us a Scriptural basis for involvement in public life, suggesting five action steps Christians can take. He emphasizes prayer, preaching, building relationships with officials, participating in the process (good citizenship) and proclaiming the gospel. In order to influence, we need to act.

As Tom discusses the article with Gordon Dickson, you will learn of some of the ways he’s been involved. I hope their discussion might inspire you to get involved in some way in your local area. By getting involved, you can have some influence on integrity in government.

May God gives us all wisdom as we face a challenging culture. Despite the challenges, we can try to influence our system towards righteousness and the preservation of freedoms we all hold dear.

Before I turn the session over to Gordon Dickson and Tom Alvis, let me remind you that paying subscribers will be able to read pastor Alvis' article online right away. We appreciate your support of our ministry and hope our work is a blessing to you.
